beijing, china - microport endovascular (shanghai) co., ltd. (“microport endovascular”) recently held the first edition of the “beyond the road” aortic forum jointly with professor chang shu, who is head of the cardiovascular surgery department of fuwai hospital of chinese academy of medical sciences. the forum, echoing china's belt and road initiative, aims to provide a permanent didactic and exchange platform for overseas surgeons from the regions in the coverage of the belt and road initiative and beyond on the basis of the top clinical centers for aortic disease surgical repairs in china. professor danilo kuizon from st. luke’s medical center and heart institute in the philippines participated in the 4-day forum.
on july 2, professor kuizon arrived at the headquarters of shanghai microport medical (group) co., ltd. in shanghai, china, and visited the microport self-experience center in the company of microport international business first vice president dr. yingqing lin. professor kuizon expressed a strong interest in microport’s products such as pacemakers, interventional valves and aortic stents. he also praised the outstanding performance and innovative rationale of the aortic products, such as hercules® low profile thoracic stent graft system and castor® branched aortic stent graft system. in addition, he used a simulator to experience the simulated operations of the products.
on july 3, professor kuizon departed for fuwai hospital and met with professor shu, before having an in-depth exchange over the current state and future development of aortic disease diagnosis and treatment techniques in china and the philippines. afterwards, they jointly conducted a surgery on a patient who had been diagnosed with pseudothoracic aortic aneurysm. microport endovascular’s hercules® low profile thoracic stent graft system was selected to complete an endovascular repair for the patient. the outer sheath of the product has a smaller diameter than that of the similar products, lowering the demands on access artery and reducing delivery resistance and damages to vessels. meanwhile, the soft inner sheath to cross the aortic arch and a proximal tip-capture mechanism can ensure an accurate placement of the stent graft with more efficacy and safety for the surgery. the tapered size design of the stent graft also has more capacity to adapt to different vascular anatomies and reduces the stress on the distal vessel wall. the angiography showed that the aneurysm was isolated effectively and the stent graft well conforms to the patient’s anatomy without endoleak or migration. professor kuizon fully acknowledged the outstanding performance of the stent graft.
during the clinical training from july 3 to july 5, professor shu led professor kuizon to complete five endovascular repairs for aortic diseases with three hercules® low profile thoracic stent graft systems and two hercules™ bifurcated stent-graft systems, all achieving excellent efficacy. professor kuizon expressed his gratitude to professor shu for his patient instructions. he also said that he had gained a great amount of precious clinical experience and skills during the training.
at the end of the forum, microport endovascular president zhenghua miao and professor shu jointly awarded an honorary certificate to professor kuizon. professor kuizon said that the event would promote the exchange and learning between surgeons from different counties, and provide a good development platform for the endovascular treatment of vascular diseases. microport endovascular president zhenghua miao said, “in the future, microport endovascular will continue to follow the rationale of independent innovation and have more academic exchanges with chinese and foreign experts, so as to jointly promote the development of aortic interventional treatment techniques.”
